House Ag Appropriations Bill Passes in Committee
Earlier this week, the House Appropriations Committee approved the fiscal year 2026 agricultural appropriations bill along party lines. The bill effectively acts as the primary funding tool for USDA. If ultimately passed as written, the bill would represent a 4.2% drop in USDA funding, which follows up on Republican interest to reduce agency budgets as they look to reduce costs and slim down some programs. It also included several provisions that follow up on the administration’s goals, such as shifting more funds to the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and codifying certain executive orders. A readout on those provisions can be found here. Staff contact: Matthew Viohl, mviohl@cfbf.com
