House Expected to Pass Whole Milk in Schools Bill
Last month, the Senate passed the bipartisan Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, which would alter public school dietary guidelines to include whole milk as an option for students. Changes from more than a decade ago intended to address childhood obesity led to a number of changes across school lunch and meal programs. Dairy advocates have promoted the health benefits of whole milk and cited research to support their campaign. Despite receiving significant support in recent congressional sessions, the bill is only now poised to reach the president’s desk. Lawmakers expect a vote prior to the Christmas holiday.
