Bear Lake Buckwheat Listed as Endangered Under CESA
At its meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11, the California Fish and Game Commission voted to list the Bear Lake buckwheat (Eriogonum microtheca var. lacus-ursi) as endangered under the California Endangered Species Act. Bear Lake buckwheat is a subshrub in the buckwheat family with only a single known occurrence on the south shore of Big Bear Lake in San Bernardino County. The plant occupies an area of less than 0.18 acre on a parcel of private property that is being leased to the city of Big Bear Lake. If any occurrences are found on your property, please report them to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
