REPORTABILITY: Assistant Controller
SALARY RANGE: $85,000 to $95,000

SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to provide support for the Financial Services Team, which facilitates the accounting of the California Farm Bureau and its six affiliated companies and foundations. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for full-cycle fixed asset accounting and all aspects of month-end and year-end closing activities including maintenance of the general and subsidiary ledgers and preparation of monthly and yearly financial reports. The Senior Accountant will also be responsible for supporting cash planning and forecasting activities. The position acts as a point of expertise in supporting the Financial Services Team with procedure and accounting system related issues, will assist in the development and management of fiscal systems, policies, processes and internal controls while regularly being assigned tasks of above average difficulty.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Analyzing and preparing monthly and yearly journal entries for recurring expenses, accruals and deferrals, investment activity, allocated expenses, and other adjusting entries.
- Preparing monthly and yearly financial statements.
- Analysis and management of cash balances across all bank and investment accounts, processing transfers and assisting with cash planning and forecasting.
- Full-cycle fixed assets which includes maintaining capitalization policies, depreciation schedules, additions, disposals and reporting.
- Facilitating annual audits.
- Supporting payroll processing by calculating and verifying bonuses and commissions payable
- Preparation and filing of tax and regulatory reports, returns and forms.
- Assisting annual budget preparation processes and preparing budget variance analyses.
- Maintaining documented accounting procedures and internal control processes.
- Staying up-to-date and advising on changes to GAAP and tax requirements.
- Assisting in membership reporting.
- Providing coverage or support for other staff which may include acting as a review or processor for payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
- 3 – 5 years of increasingly responsible accounting experience.
- Ability to research, identify and resolve accounting issues independently or advise on solutions.
- Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information, draw sound conclusions and convey conclusions in a meaningful way.
- Knowledge of GAAP and general accounting procedures.
- Knowledge of and work in either Nimble AMS or Salesforce is desirable.
- Knowledge of and work in Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains is desirable.
- Experience working with ADP Workforce Now is desirable.
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook.
