Graphic Designer
SUMMARY:
Serves as a graphic artist for a weekly newspaper and bimonthly magazine; designs print projects in a fast-paced Macintosh environment, including publication layouts, brochures, and advertisements; composes photographs and creates multimedia digital online content.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Exercises knowledge of publication standards in creating page layouts for a weekly newspaper and bimonthly magazine, working with editorial staff, design team, and other colleagues in a fastpaced, flexible Mac environment.
Designs marketing collateral; evaluates and formats photos and copy revisions as needed for classified ads and print, social media, and digital needs.
On a rotating basis, serves as lead graphic artist for publication workflow, providing support, coordination, and final transmission of the publication to the printer on deadline days and confirming its receipt.
Assists advertising colleagues with retail and classified ads including classified layouts.
Works with in-house departments and clients to evaluate their needs to develop concepts and final designs for promotional materials such as brochures, logos and in-house advertisements to appear in various marketing channels across California Farm Bureau, county Farm Bureau, and outside platforms and publications.
Collaborates with colleagues on the design and editorial teams, assists in creating content for websites and social media channels.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 5-10 years relevant experience in print design, photography, branding and digital media.
- Strong knowledge and facility with Adobe Creative Suite in a Macintosh environment, particularly InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator; experience with Premiere Pro is a plus.
- Delivers insightful designs to tell stories creatively through visual solutions with layout, typography, photography and color theory.
- Strategic problem-solving solutions for design deliverables and budgets.
- Strong time management skills, software efficiencies and best practices to meet client expectations and deadlines.
- Well-organized and detail-oriented to present and assure cohesive publications and collateral.
- Ability to work independently; respectful and collaborative as part of a team while remaining flexible in accomplishing objectives.
- Communicates with clarity to help develop projects effectively with individuals within and outside the organization.
- Responds well to feedback and maintains strong follow-up practices with staff and vendors.
- In-depth knowledge or technical skills to maintain and upgrade graphic equipment and software.
- Experience working with printers; oversight of pre-press practices and preflight to ensure quality and accuracy for all print design production.
- Willingness to grow and learn.
- Working knowledge of California agriculture is a plus.
- Working knowledge of photographic equipment; facility with lighting is a plus.
