REPORTABILITY: Chief Operating Officer
DIRECT REPORTS: Five to Six
SALARY RANGE: $110,000.00 to $125,000.00 per year
SUMMARY:
The Director of Membership and Partnerships is responsible for leading the California Farm Bureau’s efforts to grow and retain membership while developing and managing high-value strategic partnerships. This role focuses on delivering value to members, expanding the organization’s reach and impact, and aligning partnerships with strategic priorities. The Director of Membership and Partnerships serves as a critical liaison between internal teams, county Farm Bureaus, and external partners, ensuring member-centric innovation, data-driven growth, and effective engagement strategies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Membership Strategy and Engagement
- Design and execute statewide strategies to increase membership recruitment, retention, and satisfaction.
- Support and coordinate with county Farm Bureaus to align local membership goals with statewide efforts.
- Monitor membership data and feedback to inform continuous improvement.
- Prepare and manage the annual membership development budget.
- Engage in direct solicitation of prospective members via telephone activities, in-person visits, written correspondence, presentations to allied counterpart groups, and participation in CAFB outreach.
- Leverage CAFB’s mission, vision, policies, culture, history, programs, and values to set leadership direction and goals for member identification, evaluation, recruitment and retention strategies.
- Partner with internal teams to identify and execute opportunities for membership promotion and outreach.
- Collaborate with Finance and Administration to establish membership database analysis, functionality and reporting capabilities.
- Oversee the 1-800 member service line staff, resolve escalated member concerns, and coordinate cross-functional solutions.
- Coordinate with County Farm Bureaus on dues rates, voluntary contributions, and billing system accuracy.
- Guide the development of promotional materials including advertising copy, website content, renewal letters, direct mailings, new member packets, and member communications.
- Develop and track performance metrics on value of member and partner engagement and present regular reports to executive leadership.
Strategic Partnerships Oversight
- Manage and grow strategic partnerships, including oversight of the California Farm Bureau’s value-added relationship with Nationwide Insurance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for Nationwide, track performance and alignment of shared goals, collaborate on the creation of educational materials, marketing campaigns, and member resources.
- Evaluate partnership performance, report outcomes to leadership, and identify opportunities for deeper collaboration.
- Cultivate new partnerships with industry, nonprofit, and business entities that enhance member value and align with the Farm Bureau’s mission.
Leadership & Representation
- Collaborate and champion supporting membership and partnership initiatives within internal and external teams.
- Represent CAFB at external meetings and industry events.
- Contribute to organizational strategy, planning, and cross-departmental leadership as part of the management team.
- Direct the Membership Growth and Engagement Regional Manager team to achieve membership growth and engagement goals for the organization.

- Alignment of membership initiatives with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.
SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, communications, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in membership, business development, partnerships, or nonprofit management.
- Experience supervising staff and managing cross-functional projects.
- Understanding of California agriculture or membership-based organizations is preferred.
- Insurance experience is preferred.
