Legislation Changing the Management of State Demonstration Forests Heads to Governor

California Farm Bureau opposes Assembly Bill 2494 by Assemblymember Chris Rogers, D-Santa Rosa, unless it is amended. The bill passed both houses and moves to the governor for a signature or veto. Farm Bureau and county Farm Bureau partners are asking for a veto.
The bill redefines "management" of state demonstration forests, shifting from the current focus on sustained production of forest products, with consideration of recreation, watershed, and wildlife values, to handling forest vegetation, water and soils for broader public benefits, including watershed health and wildfire resilience.
What’s notable is that during the process to amend the bill consistent with Farm Bureau's oppose-unless-amended position, it still drew 19 “no” votes on the Assembly floor.
