The Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act, or SAWA, H.R. 9535, which is designed to reform the H-2A temporary agricultural workers visa program, is gathering momentum and cosponsors as the House returns from recess. There is serious talk of a Senate companion bill. SAWA, which California Farm Bureau supports, addresses California’s workforce shortage woes by making the H-2A program cheaper and easier to use, while expanding its availability to year-round agriculture such as dairies and nurseries. We’ll recap the August recess district office visit campaign and look ahead to possibilities for the upcoming lame duck session.
