Bureau of Land Management Seeks Input on Feasibility of Dairy Farms and Ranches Capable of Holding Additional Cattle Post-Wildfire

The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has issued a request for information to dairies and ranches that have the capability and interest to provide temporary housing and care for cattle displaced by recent wildland fires. The government seeks information on facilities that can provide safe, compliant and reliable support for affected livestock for up to about two years.
Responses are requested by Sept. 21, but members are welcome to message California Farm Bureau staff with their thoughts as well. Applicants do not need to qualify as base property or obtain additional permits. The idea is to assist in matching available locations with ranchers on public or private lands that need forage or a place to feed cattle. BLM is working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on feed resources separately, as well as discussing an increase in scale and pacing of fuels treatment using livestock. A request for information does not constitute an actual solicitation for contracts, but the information would help BLM ascertain where such holding facilities may exist.
