$158.2 Million in Funding Secured for Delta Levee and California Aqueduct Repairs
Published Friday, September 4, 2026
On Sept. 1, the Legislature approved allocating from the fiscal year 2026-2027 budget $90.2 million to fortify and improve levees in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and up to $68 million to address capacity limits and other subsidence-driven problems with the California Aqueduct. A large coalition of water users, including Farm Bureau, supported this budget request to help achieve the goals established by Senate Bill 872 (Jerry McNerney, D-Pleasanton), which would create a Delta Levees and Canal Subsidence Fund in the state treasury and establish criteria for use of the funds. SB 872 passed the Assembly floor with 77 "yes" votes and two abstentions.
