Funding Available for Illegal Dumping Cleanup on Farm and Ranch Property
Published Friday, September 25, 2026
Farmers and ranchers dealing with illegal dumping, abandoned solid waste or waste tires on their property may have an opportunity to receive help with cleanup costs through a new state grant program. The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery, or CalRecycle, has $797,000 available for fiscal year 2026-27 through the Farm and Ranch Solid Waste Cleanup and Abatement Grant Program. Farmers and ranchers cannot apply directly; eligible applicants include cities, counties, resource conservation districts and federally recognized Tribes. These entities can seek funding for qualifying cleanup projects located on farm and ranch property.
To qualify, the waste must have been disposed of illegally, and the farmer, rancher, property owner and other specified parties must not have brought, authorized or consented to the disposal. Awards can provide up to $50,000 per cleanup site, with a maximum of $200,000 per applicant per fiscal year.
If you have an illegal dumping or waste tire problem on your agricultural property, contact your county or local resource conservation district to ask whether they can pursue funding for the cleanup. Applications are due Oct. 7. More information is available at https://calrecycle.ca.gov/lea/grantsloans/farmranch/fy202627/
