Farm Bureau Supports E15 Proposal at CARB

The California Air Resources Board met Thursday to discuss two issues with potential implications for California agriculture: proposed changes to allow the voluntary sale of E15 gasoline and implementation of the state’s Carbon Capture, Removal, Utilization and Storage Program under Senate Bill 905.
CARB considered amendments to California’s reformulated gasoline regulations that would allow gasoline containing up to 15% ethanol to be voluntarily sold in California while removing obsolete regulatory language. With fuel costs continuing to be a concern for agricultural operation, E15 would provide more fuel options and help lower prices. Farm Bureau provided public comments in support of the proposal.
The air board also received an update on SB 905. Signed into law in 2022, SB 905 directs the state to establish a program to evaluate, demonstrate and regulate carbon capture, utilization and storage, as well as carbon dioxide removal projects and technologies. The update outlined the roles of CARB and other state agencies in developing the program. Carbon management policies could intersect with working lands, agricultural emissions, biomass and potential carbon-removal opportunities.
Farm Bureau will continue monitoring both issues and engaging with CARB and other state agencies on developments that could affect California farmers and ranchers.
