Published Friday, September 18, 2026
The House Agriculture Committee held a hearing Wednesday on “Increasing Demand and Opportunities for Homegrown Products Here and Abroad.” Ongoing trade challenges and opportunities were discussed at length, but so too were issues around labor, forestry, livestock and others.
Specialty crops were raised several times, with many questions directed to panelist Alexis Taylor, chief global policy officer for the International Fresh Produce Association. California Reps. Jim Costa and Salud Carbajal also raised concerns involving agricultural inputs and local food-purchasing programs. A recording of the full hearing is available at the link above.
