USTR Holds Second Round of Section 301 Hearings
Published Friday, May 8, 2026
This week, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative held a second round of hearings under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974, a federal trade law that allows the United States to investigate and respond to unfair foreign trade practices. The hearings focused on investigations into the acts, policies and practices of more than a dozen countries related to structural excess manufacturing capacity and production practices. The investigations examine how perceived unfair trade practices may impact U.S. manufacturing and production industries.
The hearings are part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to determine whether tariffs or other trade measures are necessary to protect domestic industries and address unfair trade conditions. A full list of hearing participants can be found here.
