Environmental Group Sues Federal Agency Over Clear Lake Hitch Decision
Published Friday, May 8, 2026
The Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit on April 24 against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, alleging the agency failed to meet a deadline to determine whether the Clear Lake hitch should be listed as threatened under the federal Endangered Species Act. The lawsuit seeks to compel the agency to issue a final listing decision. While the case does not create new regulatory requirements, an ESA listing could lead to future federal consultation requirements or habitat protections that may affect water management and agricultural operations in the Clear Lake region. California Farm Bureau will continue to monitor this litigation and any related regulatory developments that may affect agricultural operations.
