This week, the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee released legislative text for the Building Unrivaled Infrastructure and Long-term Development for America’s 250th Act, commonly referred to as the BUILD America 250 Act or the Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill. The legislation, which is typically reauthorized every five years, provides funding authority for federal highway, bridge, transit and other infrastructure programs nationwide.
The proposal carries an estimated price tag of approximately $580 billion and is expected to move quickly through committee consideration. The more than 1,000-page bill includes several provisions impacting agriculture and rural communities, including codifying hours of service and electronic logging device exemptions for livestock haulers, modernizing commercial driver’s license renewal processes and supporting rural infrastructure investments.
