Senate Holds Hearing on Fertilizers
Published Friday, May 15, 2026
Earlier this week, the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry held a hearing covering a range of issues impacting fertilizer supplies and costs. Input costs have received additional attention in recent months as the war in Iran has contributed to increases in fuel and certain fertilizer prices, although witnesses noted many supply chain and market challenges have existed for several years, including growing reliance on overseas production. During the hearing, Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff of California questioned witnesses on challenges facing specialty crop producers, including concerns regarding retailer market concentration and producer access to fair pricing and markets.
