On Monday, the House of Representatives passed the H.R. 2709, the Save Our Sequoias Act, by unanimous voice vote. Primary sponsors Reps. Vince Fong, R-Calif., and Scott Peters, D-Calif., issued statements supporting the bill’s passage earlier this week. The legislation aims to improve interagency coordination and scientific analysis to better protect giant sequoia groves, approximately 70 of which are in California. A bipartisan companion bill has also been introduced in the Senate by Sens. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., and John Curtis, R-Utah.
