Pre-Solicitation Announcement for Section 32 Purchases of Fresh Tomatoes

This week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service announced plans to purchase fresh tomatoes through what are known as Section 32 purchases. This gives the federal government the ability to buy commodities straight from producers for various support and nutrition programs. While a monetary figure wasn’t attached, in recent months, USDA has made tens of millions in purchases for commodities such as walnuts and pears. Fresh tomato growers are encouraged to click and learn more to see if they might be eligible for consideration.
