California Farm Bureau Issues Letter of Support for CDFW Director Meghan Hertel's Senate Confirmation

Published Friday, June 5, 2026
California Farm Bureau issued a support letter to the California Senate Rules Committee ahead of California Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Meghan Hertel’s June 24 confirmation hearing, citing her extensive background in natural resource policy and her distinct willingness to collaborate directly with agricultural stakeholders. Under her leadership, the CDFW has taken a pragmatic and communicative approach to the expansion of gray wolves by prioritizing flexible compensation programs and practical coexistence strategies that protect the economic survival of livestock producers. Looking ahead, Farm Bureau trusts her data-driven, practical leadership to engage with rural communities and help production agriculture against short-sighted wildlife initiatives such as the potential reintroduction of grizzly bears.
While strong policy disagreements remain regarding the scientific justification and expanded boundaries of the mountain lion Distinct Population Segment listing, Hertel has crucially kept communication channels open to ensure agricultural perspectives are consistently heard.
