Senate Farm Bill Discussion Draft Text Released
Published Friday, June 26, 2026
This week, the U.S. Senate made its first step in advancing the farm bill by releasing a “discussion draft” version for early consideration. The Senate Agriculture Committee is expected to try to hold a markup on the bill sometime next month. Notably, it does not include language on addressing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program error payment rates sought by Democrats, Proposition 12 (California’s farm animal confinement law), year-round E15 (gasoline blended with 15% ethanol) or pesticide labeling preemption.
The American Farm Bureau Federation issued a press release in support of the Senate’s progress but did note it remains hopeful of federal preemption language for Proposition 12 and pesticide labeling and continued work on E15.
