Interior Department Announces 2026 Payment in Lieu of Taxes Funding

Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of the Interior announced $733 million in funding for the Payments in Lieu of Taxes program. These payments help defray costs associated with maintaining community services for areas with federal lands, which are untaxable at a local level. California is set to receive nearly $80 million in funding as a result. A full list of those breakdowns can be found here.
