Senate Farm Bill Expected Next Week
Published Friday, June 19, 2026
The Senate Agriculture Committee is expected to release discussion draft text of its farm bill proposal next week, according to reports from Capitol Hill. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Sen. John Boozman, R-Arkansas, is reportedly targeting an early July committee markup. The House passed its version of the farm bill in April, but the Senate is expected to propose several changes before advancing its own package. Once released, the Senate draft will provide a clearer picture of potential differences between the two chambers and the path forward for a final bill.
A key issue in ongoing negotiations is a Democratic request to delay certain Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provisions enacted under last year's budget reconciliation package. While only a simple majority is needed to advance the bill out of committee, at least 60 votes will ultimately be required for Senate passage.
