California Farm Bureau to Administer $1.1 Million Wolf Compensation Program

Published Friday, July 10, 2026
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has partnered with California Farm Bureau to administer $1.1 million in compensation funding for ranchers who lose livestock to confirmed wolf depredations. Through the partnership, the California Bountiful Foundation will distribute payments to eligible producers, while CDFW will continue determining claim eligibility. The agreement reflects California Farm Bureau's continued advocacy to ensure ranchers receive timely compensation for wolf-related losses.
Separately, Senate Bill 1135 (Blakespear, D-Encinitas) continues to advance through the state Legislature after passing the Assembly Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee. The bill would permanently establish the Wolf Livestock Compensation Fund and revive the Wildlife Coexistence Program. California Farm Bureau initially opposed the bill but moved to a neutral position following significant amendments and consultation with Farm Bureau members in wolf-affected counties.
