Support the Securing Agriculture's Workforce Act

California Farm Bureau supports H.R. 9535, the Securing Agriculture’s Workforce Act, introduced by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson. The bill addresses California agriculture’s longstanding workforce shortage in several important ways.
- Expands access to H-2A temporary agricultural workers program: Year-round agricultural employers that are currently excluded by the program’s seasonal requirements could employ workers under contracts lasting up to 350 days.
- Simplifies the program: A single-access online portal would streamline employer applications, while visa portability would allow workers to move between approved H-2A employers.
- Controls program costs: The bill would codify recent reforms to the Adverse Effect Wage Rate and limit annual wage increases to 3.5%.
- Supports the existing workforce: Experienced agricultural workers could obtain legal work status after completing the standard vetting required of H-2A workers.
During the congressional August recess, California Farm Bureau is working to connect members with their representatives for meetings in district offices. If you are invited to participate, please respond. Members can also contact their representative directly and urge them to cosponsor H.R. 9535.
