Reminder: Important Farm Service Agency Deadlines
Published Friday, August 7, 2026
California Farm Bureau members should closely review several upcoming deadlines across the U.S. Department of Agriculture that are quickly approaching. The first of these is the Assistance for Specialty Crop Farmers program, which provides payments to producers based on 2025 planted acres. Note: If you originally filed an acreage report for this program, you still need to file a prefilled application online. Filing an acreage report on its own is not enough to be eligible for funding. We highlight this as USDA has revealed a significant gap between eligible specialty crop farmers and filed applications.
In addition, there is an Aug. 12 deadline for the Supplemental Disaster Relief Program, which covers relief payments to producers for qualified disaster events in 2023 and 2024. Producers with nonindemnified or uncovered losses should apply through the Stage 2 portion. Both the Agriculture Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs have an Aug. 31 deadline to review base allocations. Finally, Aug. 3 is the last day to submit nominations to serve on local USDA Farm Service Agency county committees. These serve as useful boards to help support local FSA offices and staff.
