SB 279 Expands Composting Options for Agricultural Waste
Senate Bill 279 by state Sen. Jerry McNerney, D- Stockton, is supported by the California Farm Bureau and passed out of the Assembly Natural Resources Committee this week. This bill would increase the amount of agricultural material able to be sent to composting. As burning is no longer allowed in the San Joaquin Air District, agriculture needs alternatives to send its organic waste. SB 279 would give farmers and ranchers more alternatives when it comes to their agricultural waste. The bill will next be heard in Assembly Appropriations.
