Federal Plan on Foreign Ownership of U.S. Agricultural Land Announced
On Tuesday, USDA announced the National Farm Security Action Plan, a new initiative focused on addressing the potential risks associated with foreign ownership of U.S. agricultural land. Concerns about this issue have intensified in recent years, especially regarding acquisitions near military bases and other sensitive sites by potentially bad-faith actors.
The multifaceted plan includes efforts to reform the Agricultural Foreign Investment Disclosure Act, enhance supply chain resilience through targeted risk and security assessments, and increase scrutiny of potential fraud and abuse within USDA programs. Additional steps are expected to follow as the agency works to better safeguard American agriculture, infrastructure and national security. Staff contact: Matthew Viohl, mviohl@cfbf.com
