U.S. Department of Labor Suspends Farmworker Protection Rule

Last week, the Department of Labor announced it would suspend enforcement of the Improving Protections for Workers in Temporary Agriculture Employment in the United States Rule, also known as the Worker or Farmworker Protection Rule. The California Farm Bureau previously submitted comments in opposition to this rule, as well as a recent letter with other western state Farm Bureaus, warning the poorly written rule was a hindrance to the H-2A visa program. It is not yet clear how this will impact ongoing litigation on the rule, but DOL will now be going through the formal process of removing the rule. Staff contact: Matthew Viohl, mviohl@cfbf.com
