US-India Trade Deal Announced
Published Friday, February 20, 2026
Two weeks ago, President Trump announced on social media that the administration and Indian government had come together on a trade deal intended to lower tariffs and other barriers between the two countries. Per a White House fact sheet, India is expected to eliminate or reduce tariffs on several U.S. food and agricultural products, including tree nuts, fresh and processed fruit, wine and spirits, and others. As with previous country-specific trade deals from the past several months, there are not many specifics at this time, but work likely continues behind the scenes. Tree nuts, apples and several other agricultural commodities have faced steep barriers to India in past years, including retaliatory measures during Trump’s first administration.
