Ideal candidates are those who will take over the family ranch and work to improve rangeland conditions as a natural resource.

- Priority will be given to students who plan to return to the family ranch.
- The applicant must write an essay of 500 words or less in which he/she explains why he/she has chosen the field of beef cattle or sheep ranching, range management or large-animal veterinary medicine; the goals he/she has set forth; and how past, present, and future activities make the accomplishment of these goals possible.
