Kids and Critters
First Prize
On a hot summer afternoon, the Pozzi family went fishing--followed by a curious but friendly cow. As they sat on the grass and dropped their lines in the water, the cow began to rub up against them. Sally said the cow appeared to be motivated less from bovine affection and more from “fly abatement.” Steven Pozzi, who often helps with the sheep on the ranch, felt moved to give the cow a hug and his mom captured the moment.
Second Prize
Amy Valente - San Joaquin County
In this winning photo of 3-year-old Weston, Amy Valente captured the intensity and care with which he is feeding one of the goats on the Valente family farm. Amy babysits for Weston, a frequent visitor who especially enjoys the goats.
Third Prize
Teri Arington - Tuolumne County
Moments after Teri Arington shot this picture of Iain and Mattie Proctor playing on the Geiser Ranch, both kids were covered in mud. As frequent visitors, the children always have a good time when three things are involved: water, mud and Jonesy, one of the working dogs on the ranch.
