Senate candidate Rubio earns Farm Bureau endorsement

A state Senate candidate with a history of bringing people together to solve problems, Michael Rubio, has earned the California Farm Bureau Federation endorsement in his campaign for the state Senate. Rubio, D-Bakersfield, seeks election in the 16th Senate District, which includes Kings County and portions of Fresno, Kern and Tulare counties.
“As a member of the Kern County Board of Supervisors, Michael Rubio has shown the ability to work with people on all different sides of an issue, to create solutions that work for everyone,” California Farm Bureau Federation President Paul Wenger said. “Those skills will allow him to be effective immediately in the state Senate.”
The 16th District comprises one of the most productive agricultural regions in the nation. Farmers and ranchers in the district’s four counties sold crops and commodities worth more than $14 billion in 2009.
“Michael Rubio understands the crucial role that family farms and ranches fill in his district and in California, providing affordable food and farm products and providing jobs in both rural and urban areas,” Wenger said. “He will work for policies that ensure the future of farms and ranches, including reliable water supplies for the Central Valley and the entire state.”
The California Farm Bureau Federation works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of 81,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 6.2 million Farm Bureau members.
