Assembly Member Galgiani earns Farm Bureau endorsement
» October 2, 2008 «
A strong supporter of farmers, ranchers and rural Californians, Cathleen Galgiani, has been endorsed for re-election to the state Assembly by the California Farm Bureau Federation. Galgiani, D-Stockton, seeks a second term representing the 17th Assembly District, which encompasses all of Merced County and parts of San Joaquin and Stanislaus Counties.
"During her first term, Assembly Member Galgiani proved herself to be effective in her work and committed to the issues important to family farmers and ranchers," California Farm Bureau President Doug Mosebar said. "We look forward to working with her to assure that farms and ranches remain a vital part of the state's future."
Galgiani, who has been appointed to chair the Assembly Agriculture Committee, represents one of the most productive farming regions in the nation. Farmers in the three counties in her district sell nearly $7.5 billion worth of crops and commodities annually, providing a plentiful supply of locally grown food and farm products.
"As a legislator, Cathleen Galgiani has fought to extend rural crime-prevention programs in the Central Valley and to encourage on-farm energy production," Mosebar said. "As a fifth-generation resident of her district, she recognizes the need to maintain family farms and ranches that can stay truly sustainable, both economically and environmentally."
The California Farm Bureau Federation, the state's largest farm organization, works to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of 91,000 members statewide.
