The California Farm Bureau Federation Board of Directors has endorsed Rick Keene, R-Chico, for re-election in the 3rd Assembly District.

"Rick Keene has proven to be a solid voice against excessive government spending and taxation," said California Farm Bureau President Bill Pauli.

He noted that Keene was a key participant in moving workers' compensation insurance reform through the state Legislature this year.

"Rising workers' comp costs threatened the futures of farms, ranches and other small businesses," Pauli said. "Rick Keene helped Governor Schwarzenegger achieve meaningful reform."

Keene's district includes parts of Butte, Placer and Yuba counties and all of Lassen, Plumas, Sierra and Nevada counties. The counties within the district produce nearly $700 million worth of crops, commodities and timber each year.

"As the son of a logger who has himself worked in a logging operation and a nut processing plant, Rick Keene understands that agricultural and timber production are the keys to his district's economy," Pauli said. "We appreciate Assemblyman Keene's leadership on the natural-resources and economic issues important to maintaining vital rural areas."

The California Farm Bureau Federation, the state's largest farm organization, will mobilize nearly 90,000 members statewide to influence the outcome of the November election.
