Leaders Conference
California agriculture: Leading the way
March 11-13, 2013
Welcome to the CFBF Leaders Conference and Commodity Advisory Committee meetings. Our 2013 theme—California Agriculture: Leading the Way—could not be more relevant. California agriculture is a proven trendsetter because growers like you and those in your home county have contributed to our state being one of the largest agricultural economies in the world.
At the event, you will have the opportunity to discuss issues of vital importance to your specific commodity and/or region with other farmers and ranchers throughout our diverse state. This grassroots involvement separates Farm Bureau from many other advocacy groups that aren’t structured in such a unique way.
We know you are giving up valuable time from your family and business to participate in these meetings, but the ideas, decisions and questions raised by you and others will direct the ongoing advocacy of our Farm Bureau leadership and staff. From the county to state to national levels of government, these meetings help further refine our policy development and provide guidance to our Board of Directors.
As you meet with legislators, legislative staff or agency staff, tell your story about the challenges as well as the opportunities you face daily. They need to hear from you. Exchange business cards and follow up with them, because you can and will make a difference by your personal involvement.
While California agriculture leads the nation in many areas, being the most regulated is unfortunately included. If we want to protect and promote our ability to remain as one of the most significant agricultural economies in the world, it will take your active political participation and engagement to keep California productive and growing.
