of Diesel Fuel, Propane and Farm Equipment and Machinery.
The propane savings examples are based on a total sales
tax rate of 7.25%.
Tax Reduction for Agricultural Producers and Rural Residents
Farm Bureau and other agricultural organizations worked hard
for years to cut state taxes for farmers and ranchers. It
paid off in 2001 when the California Ag Tax Equity Package
was signed into law, saving growers an estimated $ 75 million
per year. Once it was law, CFBF also worked with the Board
of Equalization to get it fully implemented for both growers
and food processors. Now farmers and ranchers are exempt from
5% tax on diesel fuel, tractors, equipment, parts and tools.
Propane gas is now totally exempt from the sales tax for all
ag producers and rural residents.

Farm / Ranch Energy Rates Controlled
For at least two decades, Farm Bureau has been vigorously
representing farmers and ranchers before the California Public
Utilities Commission (CPUC) and the state legislature to protect
against unfair energy rate increases. During this time, growers
have saved millions of dollars due to Farm Bureaus intervention.
In May 2001, Farm Bureau prevailed again at the CPUC to install
an Ag Cap on electrical rates, saving an estimated $124 million
for growers annually. Agriculture can thank Farm Bureau for
controlling those costs.
